A Texas family fights to protect its land from sprawl and development and, in the process, discovers a federally endangered species on the property. The family embarks on new territory: wild-life management, prescribed forest-fires and a dedication to replanting the land’s native grasses.  The Mitchell family’s 6000 acre wildlife and land-preserve in Montgomery County, TX, stands in stark contrast to Houston’s urban sprawl and tangled highways just 30 miles south. Visible to the naked eye on satellite imagery, Cook’s Conservancy is an exciting example of how individuals and state organizations can work together to preserve precious land heritage.
